You’d be a hero if you helped save someone’s life, wouldn’t you?
There is one time in my life when it’s possible I could have been used to save a life. A woman came to me over 30 years ago telling me she was thinking about having an abortion. I didn’t know what to say to her about that issue. I was not walking closely with God at that time in my life. I have repented and asked God to forgive me. I did not do anything to stop her from taking the life of her own child.
Many years later I was given the opportunity to tell the woman I was sorry that I had not said something to encourage her to keep her child. She let me know she had asked God to forgive her. I believe she got the matter settled with God. I don’t think she would encourage another person to take the life of their own child today.
I got the impression that it was something she was not wanting to talk about more once she had gotten things right between her and God. I respected her desire to steer clear of a painful memory. I have not gone to her to bring up the subject again.
I read a book written by Abby Johnson. Abby wrote about her involvement in Planned Parenthood. Abby helps share how she had a change of heart about this issue of aborting a child. I hope more people read her book. Her writing shows she understands how she was deceived into thinking many things that she now knows is wrong.
My life changed a lot during the past 30 years. I don’t speak against abortion every day but when I get reminded of how awful abortion is I am apt to speak against it and I may get a little loud when I talk or write about it.
Have you ever read the book of Judges? Did you see the story in Judges 19 about the Levite and His Concubine? I would not want to do what that man did in this true story. I despise what happened. It makes me feel ill to think of all of it. However I do believe God had a reason for inspiring men to record this. God is so economical there are probably several ways this story has been used by God to inspire people throughout the years. Today I read a message from a friend who thinks it is wrong for me to speak so strongly against abortion. I began to pray about what I could say to help her understand why I feel so strongly then the story from Judges 19 came to my mind. I’ll repeat myself by saying that I don’t like what the man in this story did but I understand the last verse quite clearly, → “Everyone who saw it was saying to one another, “Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt. Just imagine! We must do something! So speak up!”
I believe there comes a time in every Christian’s life when they must choose whether they will be the type of person that speaks up for what they believe in even if it makes other people uncomfortable or if it makes some people angry that something was said that they don’t want to hear.
Jesus didn’t walk on eggshells seeking to be a people pleaser. Sisters & Brothers-in-Christ, We are called to obey God not man.
The enemy is the only one who wants people to stop standing up for what they believe in when what they believe in is a Godly thing.
When was the last time you helped save a life? He who wins souls is wise. People that win souls are willing to allow God to use them to speak the truth even when other people want them to quit talking about it.
Does all this talk help save lives? YES! I have seen people come to the Lord accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts. I have witnessed it for myself many times. I have also seen the lives of innocent children be saved because someone prayed and let it be made known that abortion is not a good thing to do. I saw four people during this past year who were saved from abortion. ← Those four people are walking around today because caring people opened their mouths and let it be made known that they wanted those children to live.
