Be Wise – Follow Wise Counsel

I woke up today and soon heard a portion of Scripture go through my mind.

There is a Proverb that says, “Throw in your lot with us . . . “

Hear are the words found in Proverbs 1v14 shared in three different translations:

KJV
Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

TLB
Come on, throw in your lot with us; we’ll split with you in equal shares.”
MSG
Pay close attention, friend, to what your father tells you; never forget what you learned at your mother’s knee. Wear their counsel like flowers in your hair, like rings on your fingers. Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you, don’t go along with them. If they say—“Let’s go out and raise some hell. Let’s beat up some old man, mug some old woman. Let’s pick them clean and get them ready for their funerals. We’ll load up on top-quality loot. We’ll haul it home by the truckload. Join us for the time of your life! With us, it’s share and share alike!”— Oh, friend, don’t give them a second look; don’t listen to them for a minute. They’re racing to a very bad end, hurrying to ruin everything they lay hands on. Nobody robs a bank with everyone watching, Yet that’s what these people are doing— they’re doing themselves in. When you grab all you can get, that’s what happens: the more you get, the less you are.

I read the MSG seeing that a person is encouraged to learn at their mother’s knee and they should pay close attention to what their father tells them.

What is a person supposed to do if their parents or guardians didn’t give them wise counsel?

Most people now know that all parents are not the same.

I don’t have to expound on every bad testimony I’ve heard on the television, radio,  over the internet, or directly from people I know where a child was finally able to expose the evil things their parent was involved with.  Some parents do not train their children to do good things.

There are some parents who teach their children to be liars, greedy, perverted, and ugly spirited.  Some of those people sit in the church on a regular basis, too.  The children follow the ways of their parents unless the children grow up with a strong desire to turn away from those things that are wrong.

Christian friends,  If anyone tells you to throw in your lot with them and to do things that are against the ways of the Lord don’t listen to them.

Each of us are held accountable for the things we say and do.  It is appointed for all men to die and then the judgment will come.

Listen to the Lord.
