God Has The Final Answer

I talked with a Pastor’s wife a number of years ago telling her how hard it is to accept it when we see or hear about evil things that have happened.  She assured me that God will take care of people who do evil things but that does not mean God’s judgment will happen instantly.  She told me she has seen several instances where people did something that was awful and the day finally arrived when there was an end to the madness.

A pastor I talked to about the same subject asked me to listen to a recording of something he had preached at church not so long before our conversation.  He shared words from Ps. 37 where it says we should not fret because of those who do evil things.  God’s Word says a little while and the evil people will no longer exist.

Words from Ps. 37 (NIV) , “Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy peace and prosperity.

Christian believers know that unrepentant people will go to hell.  Those who refuse to repent and change their ways will not enter into the New Jerusalem mentioned in Revelation 21.

Revelation 21  (NIV),

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

I have been meditating on these words for a number of years now.  I am convinced that the pastor and the pastor’s wife were right to tell me what I heard.  I am also sure that every person will be held accountable to God.  Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Each person will be given time to repent, change, and get right with the Lord.  If they do get right with God they will confess their sins.  Lying will no longer be a part of their lives.  They will want  to be cleansed of their sins.  They will want to live a sin free life.   They will want to be with God in eternity forever.

I was rereading the story about Nabal and Abigail last night. Abigail had a mean and surly husband named Nabal. When Abigail confronted Nabal his flesh became like his spirit when it became like a stone and he died within 10 days according to I Sam. 25. There are some mean and nasty people out there that act like Nabal acted. They are swindlers and thieves who seek ways to take advantage of people that are weaker than them. It is completely okay to speak the truth about scoundrels as long as you are speaking the truth. ONE day all will answer to God for the things they’ve done while they walked on this earth. I know of a man that acted greedy to gain great wealth and found out he had a fast growing disease. I asked God to have mercy on him & prayed he will get right with God. I heard today that he died last night. There is no satisfaction in my heart when I think of how he lived. He lived in fancy homes and he had a great deal of wealth. He can’t take any of that with him. The only memory I have left of him is how mean and surly he was. He reminded me of Nabal. I am unhappy that he died except for one thing. I know he is not able to steal from people any longer. My sincere prayer is that all of us who claim to know the Lord will stop and ask God to help us see if there is anything in us that is sinful. May God deliver us of any form of greed and all forms of mean spiritedness. When you die leaving this earth behind what will people remember about you? The week before you die will they be in prayer that you will get right with God or will they believe you are one that sought the Lord’s forgiveness and you showed Christ’s type of love before you died. I believe God wants His people to get right with Him and to examine themselves regularly. I also believe if you have done something wrong you should do everything you can to make things right. The murderers should make sure they tell the truth about their evil deeds and they should let the truth be known about what they’ve done. The thieves should find ways to pay people back if they stole something from them if there is any way they can do that. The person that owes someone else money should do what they can to pay their debts praying God will help them do what is right.
