I was reading Isaiah 40 this morning.
Take a good look at verses 10 & 11 with me: Isaiah 40:10-11 King James Version (KJV),
“Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
The NIV says it like this: Isaiah 40:10-11 New International Version (NIV),
“See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power,
and he rules with a mighty arm.
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.”
God is strong and powerful. He is our Lord. We depend on him the way sheep depend on their Shepherd.
Isn’t it precious to think of how he will gather us up and hold us close to his heart?
I also enjoyed reading about how the Good Shepherd gently leads those who are with young.
When I was growing up I met several people that didn’t seem to care about those who are with young or those who are tending to the young ones.
How comforting it is to be reminded that we serve a Lord who gently cares for us in many ways. These passages help me think about how surely the Lord is concerned about those who are weak and special care is given to those who are carrying the young ones.
I am also reminded of the words to a song I heard as a child.
“The Lord is my Shepherd. I’ll walk with him always.
He leads me by still waters. I’ll walk with him always.
Always Always I will walk with him always.
Always Always I will walk with him always. “
